3. 1999 World Series
All of the titles he finished were special, but this one had to take a special place in the Panamanian’s heart.
Completing a sweep of the Atlanta Braves at Yankee Stadium, the right-hander earned World Series MVP honors. Saving two games in the series, he shut Atlanta down over 4.2 innings pitched, including two scoreless frames in Game 4.
If there was such a thing as postseason MVP, he would have won that as well.
In 12.1 innings combined between the ALDS, ALCS, and World Series, he did not allow a run while fanning nine and walking just one.
That year — one in which he recorded 45 regular season saves — saw him rank third in Cy Young voting and 14th in AL MVP voting. Out of his entire tenure of brilliance, 1999 was something truly special.
