Following the report that the Cubs have offered their top prospect to the New York Yankees, new sources confirm it could be a blockbuster deal.

Folks, it’s trade deadline season and although the New York Yankees may not be buying, they are still in the mix.

According to Julie DiCaro of Sports Illustrated, outfielder Jorge Soler is in the mix as the Cubs attempt to bring Aroldis Chapman to the Windy City.

In five seasons in the Cubs’ farm system, Soler owns a .300/.378/.534 slash line with 28 home runs in 158 career games and was listed as baseball’s 12-best prospect by Baseball America heading into last season.

Those same unnamed sources also claim that Chicago has bestowed attention in Carlos Beltran, Nathan Eovaldi, and Michael Pineda as this trade is shaping up to become a blockbuster of a deal.

Despite all this, however, I fully expect the Yankees to be hesitant on dealing Pineda and Eovaldi. They have asked for “too much” before when discussing both of the righties with the Pittsburgh Pirates and it should not change now unless they are blown away.

As originally reported by Jon Heyman, Cubs have a trade on the table which would move top shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres to the Yankees.
