At noon on Wednesday, the New York Yankees announced the signing of their 2016 first-round draft pick.

Moments ago, the New York Yankees announced the signing of the 18th overall pick in the 2016 MLB draft, Blake Rutherford.

A 19-year-old left-handed hitting outfielder out of Chaminade College Prep in Los Angeles, Rutherford had committed to UCLA and there was a strong chance that he would opt for college.

However, recent reports implied that there was a growing chance the Yanks were going to reach an agreement with one of the top prospects the draft had to offer.

Expected by many to go Top 10, the organization appears to have landed a steal at number 18. Now, they have him lined up.

Rutherford will report to the GCL Yankees, a Rookie League affiliate that plays at the Tampa complex. He will likely spend the remainder of the 2016 season improving his craft with the club.

According to MaxPreps, the 6’2″, 180 lb stud hit .577 with 34 runs scored in 27 games in his senior season.  Long story short: that will put you on the radar.

It is now Blake Rutherford’s time to shine in the New York Yankees’ farm system.
