New York Yankees: Most Dramatic Wins Since Moving Across The Street

10/9/2009 – A-Rod Ties It, Tex Wins It

Up 1-0 in the best of five ALDS against the Minnesota Twins, the Yankees had their backs against the wall and were in danger of forfeiting home-field advantage for the rest of the series.

They trailed 4-2 in the bottom of the ninth facing one of the top closers in all of baseball at the time, Joe Nathan.

Alex Rodriguez stepped up as the tying run, incredibly due for a huge postseason hit and, more importantly, a pivotal postseason tear. Up to the task, the revitalized third baseman crushed a two-run shot into the right-center field bleachers to tie the game at four.

Two innings later, Mark Teixeira stepped up with the game still tied and drilled an 11th inning, walk-off home run that creeped over the left field wall. The wall scraper sent the crowd into a frenzy and lifted the Yankees to a 2-0 series lead which they would eventually turn into a sweep.
