Between facing the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays in a split squad, there was much to discuss with the New York Yankees.
Whenever a team goes split-squad during spring training, mixed results usually follow.
This was most definitely the case for the New York Yankees today. The Yanks played to a 4-4 draw with the Baltimore Orioles at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, and also lost to the Toronto Blue Jays in Tampa at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
The big news surrounded Aroldis Chapman. The flame-throwing Cuban who’ll be suspended for the first 30-games of the season struggled in his first Yankees action.
Aside from hitting Jays slugger Jose Bautista with a pitch, Chapman gave up a run, hit another batter, and walked two others during two-thirds of an inning.
In the other game, Starlin Castro collected three hits and three runs batted in.
