New York Mets

While most believe Yoenis Cespedes returned to the New York Mets for his love of the city, others feel the hopes and dreams of Rihanna played a factor.

Celebrated megastar Rihanna may have played some role in getting New York Mets slugger Yoenis Cespedes to return to New York and back for the defending National League Champions.

At least one person – Clem from Barstool Sports – thinks so.

In a tweet on Friday, Cespedes congratulated Rihanna on her new music album:

There may have been other factors too. Both Cespedes and Rihanna are represented by RocNation agency.

All in all though, I believe Cespedes is a huge fan of Rihanna and her music and we all know big stars like her love the bright lights of New York or Los Angeles.

Even though Cespedes took less money to re-sign with the Mets, he still signed a 3-year, $75 million contract, while he can opt out after the first year in which he will make $27.5 million. He is also the Mets biggest power hitter and attraction like he was when he first came to New York via a trade at the end of July and sparked their lineup with 17 home runs in the last two months of the regular season.

So, he got the money and the star attraction, which perhaps gives a little credence to Clem’s theory, prediction that they’ll wind up becoming a power couple.

A lot of folks expect Cespedes to opt out after next season and be a free agent, which could make his stay with the Mets only one year. However, if Rihanna and Cespedes have something going, you never know.

After all, there’s no place like New York for sports and music stars to get together.

Other than God, sports are my biggest love. My teams are the Mets, Knicks, NY Giants, NY Rangers and St Johns basketball (St. John's alumni). I especially love the Mets like crazy, more than any other team and seeing them win the World Series would be a dream come true and definitely the best sports moment. The Knicks are a close second. I also like to write, so combine that with my passion for sports equals a perfect scenario, I would love to do sports writing long term. If not that, then probably sports broadcasting, cause I love to talk sports as well. In addition to writing for ESNY, I'm also currently writing for Metsmerizedonline.
