New York Islanders

For New York Islanders fans Marek Zidlicky’s statement of seeing this season as his last opportunity to win a Stanley Cup is a pure compliment to his new team.

The 38-year-old defenseman was not overwhelmingly sought after during the off-season as a UFA.

Yet, Marek Zidlicky‘s choice to sign with the Isles in what may just be his last season in the NHL proves again what new incoming veterans feel about the team and organization.

Zidlicky’s playing time is still uncertain but his veteran presence on the power-play will be needed, as the younger defensemen grow into their own roles.

As the preseason rolls along, opening night at the Barclays could not come fast enough.

The Islanders have kept pretty much their same team intact, and the brotherhood was not shaken up as Brock Nelson signed at the 25th hour.

Zidlicky is far from alone in believing the Islanders are capable of contending this season.  The atmosphere and energy around the team has been very open to what they believe they can accomplish: A Stanley Cup!

Yes, I said it.
