With the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals going 18-innings on Sunday, SNY’s Keith Hernandez was in full despair mode in the booth.
Recently we ranked the top five sports broadcast teams in New York City. The top squad, by a landslide, turned out to be the SNY crew who covers the New York Mets.
Gary Cohen, Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez do a tremendous job of in-depth coverage on a game-by-game basis. When Hernandez and Darling go back and forth while digging deep analytically into a baseball play, it becomes some of the best baseball insight on TV today.
The other area they garner a bundle of respect is by way of speaking the truth. When the Mets are struggling, none of these Mets lifers are afraid to call a few fellas out.
This is especially the case for Hernandez, although it oftentimes borders on the line of ridiculousness.
Listen Hernandez in the above video as the Mets and his beloved St. Louis Cardinals played a marathon 18-inning game. The Mets wound up taking the extra long affair by the final of 3-1 despite leaving a small village on base (25).
We’ve heard everything from zany quotes to uncomfortable breathing from the man who famously hooked up with Elaine Benes on Seinfeld. This one, however, breathes new life into the idea of a “Hernandez Gem.”
