The New York Yankees have taken another hit as Andrew Miller is looking like he might be out for up to a month.
By Michael Iuzzini
The New York Yankees will most likely be without closer Andrew Miller for the next four weeks.
The loss of Miller is a pretty tough blow as Manager Joe Girardi has leaned heavily on this tremendous bullpen all season.
Miller has been great as the Yankees closer with an 1.03 ERA, 17 saves and 43 K’S. MRI results came back with Miller having a strained flexor.
The new Yankee has been solid for the back-end of the bullpen, giving the team the much-needed pitching support that has kept them on top of the AL East.
With the closer being shut down, Dellin Betances will grab the reigns as closer and should have no issue taking on his new role as he has been dominant against hitters all season.
Girardi will need to change his approach with going to the bullpen as often as he has. Yankee starters must take the burden of Miller’s injury and pitch deeper in games to aid the depleted bullpen.
Betances brings a 0.28 ERA, 54 strikeouts and 11 hits allowed in 32.1 innings to the table.
This is going to be a true challenge for the Yankees and a gauge on what this current team is made of.
