Kevin Durant and Charley Rosen are the latest NBA figures to express opinions regarding Phil Jackson’s “posse” comment.
Kevin Durant is one of the latest superstars to respond to Phil Jackson‘s use of the word “posse” to describe LeBron James‘ business associates.
In an interview with ESPN journalist Chris Haynes, Durant agreed with James’s displeasure with the comment, telling Haynes he has “lost his respect for Jackson,” the current Knicks president. Durant added, “I see why James took offense to it, he doesn’t just put work on the court; he puts work off the court as well trying to set his kids up forever.”
While Durant was unhappy with the use of words by Jackson, he did add that he did not believe his words were racist, saying, “I don’t think Phil is racist. I think he just used a bad word, and he shouldn’t be talking about players from another team anyway.”
While Durant ultimately agrees with James, Jax’s pal doesn’t.
Charley Rosen of FanRag, who is a longtime friend of Jackson, is unhappy with LeBron James statement that he has lost respect for the Zen Mater.
Rosen believes that Jackson deserves the benefit of the doubt, telling reporters “that was such bulls-t, all of a sudden its a bad word but Allen Iverson can talk about his boys.” Rosen added there have been many racist coaches in the NBA and said Jackson wasn’t even close to one of them.
While many inside the game believe his comments were not racist, Jackson’s comments certainly provide the 13-time NBA champion a bad rep. It will be interesting to see how this story progresses over the year.
