New Jersey Devils Snag Center Michael McLeod 12th Overall In NHL Draft

Michael McLeod, who our very own Justin Weiss discussed earlier in the week, was snagged by the New Jersey Devils in the NHL Draft.

Make no mistake about it: youngster Michael McLeod was a highly sought after prospect in the 2016 NHL Draft.

So much so that our very own Justin Weiss bandied about the possibility that Garth Snow and the New York Islanders might make a run at him.

Funny though, how life works sometimes.

Instead of the Isles, it turned out to be the New Jersey Devils who snagged the 18-year old center who last played for the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL.

McLeod is described as an extremely exciting two-way player. Not only can he play the role of playmaker on offense, but his defensive awareness is stark. In 57 games for the Steelheads a season ago, McLeod tallied 21 goals and 40 assists. He was also tagged for 71 penalty minutes.

The Devils were originally slotted for the 11th pick in Friday night’s 2016 NHL Draft, but traded back one spot with the Ottawa Senators. Their bonus for doing such a thing was a third-round selection.
