New York Mets right-hander Marcus Stroman will change his jersey number from seven to zero ahead of the 2020 campaign.
Marcus Stroman will change his jersey number ahead of what’s supposed to be his first full season as a New York Met. Stroman, via his Twitter account, announced on Friday evening that he would be changing his number to zero. His previous number was seven.

This comes after Stroman announced in October that he would be ditching No. 7. The move comes in respect to former Mets shortstop José Reyes, who had seven as his jersey number. Reyes had two stints with New York, one from 2003-11 and another from 2016-18.
Stroman is the fourth Met to ever wear zero as his number. Outfielder Terry McDaniel wore it in 1991, shortstop Rey Ordóñez from 1996-97, and then second baseman Omar Quintanilla in 2014. Tony Clark wore double-zero in 2003. Double-zero being the same as single-zero is up for debate, at least for some people.
The Mets originally acquired Stroman in a trade prior to the July 31 deadline. New York dealt left-hander Anthony Kay and right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson for the All-Star pitcher from the Toronto Blue Jays. Stroman, 28, had just made his first career All-Star Game prior to the trade.
After coming over to the Mets last Summer, Stroman posted a record of 4-2 in 11 starts. In those appearances, he combined for a 3.77 ERA and a 1.475 WHIP with 60 strikes and 23 walks through 59.2 innings pitched.
Stroman and the Mets, regardless of what jersey number he wears, still have the same goal. The ballclub will be looking to build upon their 86-76 finish in 2019 and make a playoff run in 2020.
