The New York Mets will call up righty Jacob Rhame from Triple-A Syracuse as Zack Wheeler hits the injured list.
On Monday, the New York Mets placed right-handed pitcher Zack Wheeler on the 10-day injured list. Wheeler is dealing with shoulder fatigue, and the earliest he can pitch again is on July 22.
Tim Healey of Newsday reported that luckily there’s no structural damage in Wheeler’s shoulder.
Because of this news, the Mets have recalled right-hander Jacob Rhame from Triple-A Syracuse.

Rhame, 26, has appeared in 42 games for the Mets dating back to 2017. In those appearances, Rhame is 2-3 with a 6.65 ERA, 37 strikeouts, and 20 walks through 44.2 innings pitched.
Rhame was available on Tuesday, but he is still appealing a two-game suspension for throwing at Rhys Hoskins earlier this year.
Wheeler, due to the shoulder issue, could now lose value as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. The Mets were looking to deal him before the deadline, as the New York Yankees were a contender to become a landing spot. The trade could still very much happen. However, this IL placement definitely raises some question marks.
Wheeler would most likely become a rental for whatever team acquires him, as his current contract expires at the conclusion of this season. Thus far in 2019, he’s 6-6 with a 4.69 ERA through 19 starts.
Steven Matz was supposed to return to the starting rotation on Wednesday, however, his start was moved up to Tuesday. He appeared in the Mets’ first game of the two-game series against the Minnesota Twins.
The Mets’ season isn’t exactly what they had hoped. Actually, it’s far from it, but they are hoping to salvage something from this season in the second half.
