Mariano is set for induction into the baseball Hall of Fame in July and will forever be known as the first player to ever get unanimously voted into the highest honor any player could ever receive. His appearance in the annual exhibition game will be his first since retiring in 2013.
The game is set to take place on June 23, right before the Bombers get set to square off against the Houston Astros for the final time in 2019, and includes three other first time players other than Rivera. Joining Mo as a first time Old-Timer is Jason Grimsley, Jerry Hairston Jr. and Mel Stottlemyre’s wife, Jean.
Familiar faces like Don Larsen, Reggie Jackson, Whitey Ford, Ron Guidry, David Cone, Paul O’Neill, Bucky Dent, Bernie Williams and Willie Randolph also will take the field at Yankee Stadium on a day that celebrates the great history that is Yankee baseball.
The annual game will be the 73rd edition of an Old-Timers’ Day game. Last year, Nick Swisher had himself a day to remember, belting a home run into the second deck in right field off Jeff Nelson.
