New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman sort of shut down the idea of starting pitching help in the form of Gio Gonzalez, others.

The front office boss has spoken … sort of.

On Wednesday at George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman made it clear that he’s comfortable with what he currently has (as it relates to the starting rotation), via Brendan Kuty of NJ.com

“What I’ve got is what I’ve got,” Cashman said in the clubhouse.

On Tuesday, a Mark Feinsand report surfaced suggesting New York had previously discussed the possibility of bringing on left-handed free agent Gio Gonzalez.

The momentum only grew once Luis Severino hit the shelf earlier that very same day. Sevy was scratched prior to his start. It was announced he’s most likely miss Opening Day with shoulder inflammation. Two weeks is the current timetable.

In terms of Severino replacements, New York can turn to a few youngsters. Jonathan Loaisiga is one such name. Luis Cessa and Domingo German are other options. James Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka, J.A. Happ and CC Sabathia account for the rest of the starting staff.

Cashman feels right with the roster as is.

“We’re comfortable with that,” Cashman said.

Another available name is former Houston Astros lefty Dallas Keuchel. Nevertheless, Cashman didn’t blink.

“We’ll always turn from within,” the GM said. “We’ll rely on what we have. And obviously, like any time, if things develop over time and present themselves from the outside that makes sense between now and August 31st, we’ll continue to bang that drum. If that’s the case, we’re always open to non-roster invites, waiver claims, trades – those things are all part of the job.”

This, of course, doesn’t mean a starting pitcher is off limits for the Yankees. It’s basic generality talk Brian Cashman routinely attempts to engage.

Gio Gonzalez, Dallas Keuchel or not, the New York Yankees starting staff is ready to go, according to general manager Brian Cashman.
