Kevin Knox of the New York Knicks is officially a Puma athlete as the apparel company continues to sign young talent.
Puma’s effort to sign Kevin Knox of the New York Knicks was anything but subtle. Their recruitment effort included a tweet that made the company’s intentions crystal clear. They wanted Knox in the worst way.
The young stud wasn’t playing hard to get and Nick DePaula of ESPN is reporting that Knox and Puma have agreed to a multi-year deal. Knox isn’t the only Knickerbocker to join Puma as the apparel company dives back into hoops following a 20-year hiatus from the basketball scene.
Walt “Clyde” Frazier is a Puma legend and DePaula reports that Knox will wear the new Clyde Court. The Hall of Famer has a lifetime deal with Puma and the company provides an interesting link to the Knicks’ past, present and future.
As Puma re-enters the hoops scene, they’re prioritizing the acquisition of young talent. Rather than go after established NBA stars, Puma is betting on the likes of Deandre Ayton, Marvin Bagley III, Terry Rozier and now Knox.
Perhaps Knox’s impressive showing in the Las Vegas Summer League was enough to push Puma towards their unabashed recruitment of the former Kentucky star. Maybe having an athlete based in the New York market was another factor that played a part in the Puma-Knox partnership.
The Knicks are betting on Knox to be a franchise cornerstone in the future and Puma is following their lead. The rookie has future star written all over him and Puma definitely didn’t waste any time signing him.
