New York Giants: John Mara Says Injury Won’t Impact New Deal For Odell Beckham Jr

New York Giants co-owner John Mara isn’t concerned with Odell Beckham Jr.’s ankle injury when it comes to a new deal for the star wideout.

It’s no secret that Odell Beckham Jr. wants to be the NFL’s highest-paid player—something that other players around the NFL agree with. While New York Giants co-owner John Mara didn’t say that he was ready to hand OBJ that title, he’s not going to hold his season-ending ankle injury against him when contract talks begin.

“I don’t think that will have any effect because I think he’s going to make a full recovery,” Mara told NJ.com’s Dan Duggan during the NFL’s fall owners meetings. For the record, Beckham believes he’ll make a full recovery as well.

It’s highly doubtful that the Giants will ever let Beckham reach free agency, as he’s a superstar caliber player. The team wants to keep him around and there’s no reason to believe that OBJ is looking to put on a different team’s uniform.

However, it wouldn’t be a shock if the injury came up during contract negotiations. Salary cap room is precious, and teams don’t want to commit a huge portion of their cap to just one player.

The injury won’t stop the Giants from resigning Beckham, but it is likely to have a slight impact on the negotiations.
