The New York Yankees will play their final game of a three-game set in Arlington looking for just their second series there in nine visits.

Left-handed rookie Jordan Montgomery will take the hill for the New York Yankees as they look to take their first series against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park since May of 2011 on Sunday afternoon.

Montgomery is seeking his first win since July 25 and a break from his rough spell that has caused him to go 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA since then. In his last outing against the Orioles on Monday, the 24-year-old surrendered three runs (two earned) in 4.2 innings, marking the sixth-straight start in which he hasn’t pitched in six innings.

For the Rangers, A.J. Griffin will be making his seventh start since returning from the disabled list on August 3. Since then, the right-hander is 2-3 with a 4.20 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 30 innings.

Griffin last worked on September 2 against the Los Angeles Angels, where he surrendered two runs over 5.2 innings of work. The rotation push back was caused by a rainout on Tuesday and an off-day on Thursday.

Lineups:

Yankee Clipper:

In five career starts against New York, A.J. Griffin is 3-0 with a 2.37 ERA. He last faced them on June 30, 2016, and fanned eight over five innings of one-run ball at Yankee Stadium. Didi Gregorius was responsible for the only run off the 29-year-old after taking him yard in the fifth inning.

Who’s Your Daddy?

Let’s just say Griffin isn’t Yankees’ center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury‘s best friend. In 14 career at-bats against the righty, Ellsbury is 1-for-14 — good enough for a .071 batting average. That is his lowest batting average against any right-handed pitcher he has faced at least ten times in his career.

This Day In Yankees’ History:

On Sept. 10, 1922, the Yankees played their last regular season game at the Polo Grounds, defeating Philadelphia, 2-1. The next season, the Yankees played their first season at the historic Yankee Stadium.
