New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley discusses Daniel Jones’ touchdown pass from their preseason Week 1 matchup.

Last Thursday, the New York Giants faced off against the New York Jets in both teams’ first preseason game. Being that it’s just an exhibition match, all eyes aren’t on the final score. Most eyes are on the performance of certain rookies as well as backups trying to crack the final roster.

And during that game, despite it only being for one series, all attention was on Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones. Finishing 5-for-5 with 67 yards and a touchdown pass to receiver Bennie Fowler Jr., Jones was on point in his first NFL action.

On Monday, star running back Saquon Barkley was asked about Jones’s touchdown pass and how he reacted to it.

“It’s funny, I remember them working on that route after practice and just repping it, repping it, repping it,” Barkley said. “To see it come all together on the field is really special.

“For Daniel, I was just happy for him that it was his first drive. To go down there and score a touchdown on your first drive, a lot of people can’t say that. Just happy for him, just happy for the offense. Even though it was the second drive, we were able to regroup after they scored and be able to respond. That’s important in football. When a team goes down and scores, you gotta be able to go down and respond.”

Barkley didn’t play one snap in the first preseason game, and it’s not confirmed at the moment whether or not he’ll get any time on the field prior to the regular season.

The Giants next preseason game is this Friday at MetLife Stadium against the Chicago Bears. It’ll be interesting to see if Jones follows up on his impressive performance from Week 1.
