NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is the current king of Milwaukee and New York Yankees starter CC Sabathia can relate.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and CC Sabathia have more in common than you might think.
The reigning NBA MVP, Antetokounmpo, is on top of Milwaukee at the moment. But the New York Yankees starter was once the biggest thing in the Cream City during his remarkable half-season with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008.
Antetokounmpo was in Yankee Stadium on Monday and had the chance to talk with Sabathia. Coley Harvey of ESPN captured the moment between the two.
Giannis Antetokounmpo: “So they told me you used to live in Milwaukee …”
Giannis and CC spent much of this interaction discussing Milwaukee and how great the sports fans there were during Sabathia’s post-trade run in 2008, and during the Bucks’ run this year. pic.twitter.com/NYDH85SzUu

The Greek Freak’s run in Milwaukee doesn’t look like it’s ending anytime soon. He has the chance to bring the city more MVPs and potentially a championship if all goes well.
Sabathia was only with the Brewers for a short time, but he posted a ridiculous 1.65 ERA in 17 games with Milwaukee. He routinely went out and delivered on short rest despite the fact that he was set to become a free agent in the offseason.
Sabathia helped lead Brewers. to the playoffs before they bowed out in the NLDS. However, his commitment to winning despite the risks will never be forgotten by Milwaukee.
Sabathia wasn’t the only player Antetokoumpo met on Monday. A number of Yankees were downright giddy about meeting the superstar.
Jazzed is an understatement, Lindsey! Had to applaud Mike Tauchman for taking full advantage the opportunity to walk over and shake the hand of a man he is hoping against hope will one day lead his Chicago Bulls back to the Promised Land. https://t.co/xX7W32jYAE

Perhaps Antetokoumpo will mirror Sabathia’s career by jumping to New York in the future. After the New York Knicks struck out with superstars in 2019 free agency, the focus shifts to 2021 when the Greek Freak could be available.
That’s still a long way off and more likely a pipe dream than reality. Either way, seeing Antetokounmpo hold a baseball is downright preposterous.
