Woody Harrelson reacts to brutal tennis shot at Wimbledon (Video)

In a wild day at Wimbledon, Woody Harrelson emerged as an unlikely star during the men’s doubles final on Saturday.

Tennis is not a contact sport. That being said, this doesn’t mean players are immune from nasty injuries. Nicolas Mahut was on the wrong end of a backhand smash and famous actor Woody Harrelson’s reaction says it all.

Mahut had already been hit by a smash earlier in the match. Most casual tennis fans are used to watching singles where the pace is a bit slower. Doubles often ends up with ping-pong style rallies at the net. That can result in groin shots from time to time.

Woody Harrelson at Wimbledon probably wasn’t what you expected. But it was everything we could have ever wanted and then some.

Prior to the unfortunate shot to the groin for Mahut, Harrelson was held up by security during a fourth-set tiebreak. It looked like he had a nice glass of white wine—not Pimm’s—as he begrudgingly waited to get back to his seat. But absence makes the heart grow fonder and Harrelson was all smiles when security finally let him go through.

Wimbledon should give Harrelson free tickets for life after Saturday.

Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah would eventually beat Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in a back-and-forth match that went the maximum five sets.

Wimbledon has lived up to the hype this year. Serena Williams and Andy Murray played mixed doubles together. We got to see Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal square off for the first time at Wimbledon since their epic five-set final in 2008. Moreover, Sunday’s Men’s Finals will feature Federer and world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
