Despite major injuries up and down the lineup, Luke Voit is putting the New York Yankees on his back during a nine-game road trip.

With all the injuries the New York Yankees have sustained during the 2019 season, first baseman Luke Voit has been a godsend. The former unknown picked up right where he left off in 2018 and was named American League Player of the Week by W.B. Mason per Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com.

Voit’s ridiculous week propelled the Yankees to a 6-1 record and a sweep over the San Francisco Giants. He put up a ridiculous slash line of .433/.528/.867 and was the heart and soul of the lineup despite being surrounded by names like Mike Tauchman, Gio Urshela, and Tyler Wade.

Voit’s up to eight home runs and 25 RBI on the season with a slash line of .283/.397/.538. The massive righty seamlessly transitioned to the two-hole in the batting lineup. That slot is usually reserved for right fielder Aaron Judge, but Voit is proving capable of filling Judge’s shoes.

What the Yankees are doing right now is nothing short of remarkable. With 13 players on the injured list, the Bronx Bombers haven’t had their full lineup in a game this season. Voit is one of the few silver linings to the slew of injuries to befall the Yanks.

Eduardo Escobar of the Arizona Diamondbacks was named National League Player of the Week. The Yankees are off on Monday, but they travel to Arizona to take on Escobar and the D-Backs on Tuesday.

Arizona and New York will play a short two-game set before the Yankees return to the Bronx after a nine-game west coast road trip.
