Ray Lucas had the same reaction as many Jets fans when the New York Giants shocked the world and chose Daniel Jones at No. 6.

Former NFL quarterback and current SNY analyst Ray Lucas was in hysterics on Thursday night. After the New York Giants selected Duke’s Daniel Jones with the No. 6 pick, Lucas was seen in SNY’s offices going berserk.

Lucas played four seasons for the New York Jets, which could explain why he seems to be taking such pleasure in this head-scratching pick. Three picks prior to the selection of Jones, the Jets took Quinnen Williams—a defensive lineman who might be the most talented player to emerge from the 2019 draft class.

Under normal circumstances, the Jets would be the team ridiculed for making a bizarre pick in the first round. However, the tables have turned and the Giants are the ones receiving the backlash from New Yorkers.

The Giants are being mocked far and wide for reaching with their pick. Jones was widely regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the draft, but it’s highly probable that he would have been on the board at No. 17. In addition to Jones and first-overall pick Kyler Murray, the only other quarterback taken in the first round was Dwayne Haskins—at No. 15.

Of course, it’s possible that another team would have swooped in and snagged Jones, but we may never know for sure. Regardless, the Giants passed on EDGE rusher Josh Allen in favor of Jones. Allen could be a generational pass rusher and that remains one of New York’s biggest needs heading into Friday and Saturday.
