With the New York Yankees battling the injury bug, Jonathan Loaisiga will start on Wednesday when they conclude their series against Detroit.
Tuesday evening, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced Jonathan Loaisiga Wednesday in Detroit.
With his five-game suspension expiring, CC Sabathia will be placed on the 10-day injured list tomorrow. The Yankees will recall Jonathan Loaisiga, who will start vs. the Tigers.

Loaisiga will be taking CC Sabathia’s turn in the rotation since Sabathia is still not game ready after heart surgery during the winter. New York held back recalling the 24-year-old because they wanted to wait for Sabathia’s suspension to end to open up a roster spot on the 25-man roster.
In nine games last season, Loaisiga posted an ERA of 5.11 in 24.2 innings where he would strike out 33. He impressed many with his velocity and movement on his pitches making some hitters look foolish at times. The limited success, put him in the conversation for the final spot in the Bombers rotation this spring.
Loaisiga’s spring was a bit of the same from what we saw in 2018. He posted a 6.75 ERA in 16 innings, allowing 13 runs (12 earned) in that span. While the numbers aren’t pretty, the Yankees simply don’t have many other options at this point.
Yes, the club signed lefty Gio Gonzalez before the spring ended, but he isn’t built up enough to contribute on the major league roster yet. The option of an opener is always a possibility in the modern game, but Boone is deciding to go with the normal starter.
In his career, Loaisiga has yet to face the Tigers which usually gives a pitcher the upper hand. Detroit managed to score just one run off Domingo German for the second time in his career.
Matt Boyd will get the ball for Detroit as the two teams finish their series in the Bronx Wednesday afternoon.
