The rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox may have just gotten a little deeper with Vegas odds.

It’s official: The New York Yankees are winning the World Series!

That’s how all this works, right?

According to the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, the New York Yankees are the favorites to win the American League East over the Boston Red Sox.

The Yankees emerge as -125 favorites to come out on top of the division while the Sox sit at +140 odds, as reported by Doug Kezirian of ESPN. For a Yankees team that battled tooth and nail against the Sox last year, they made moves to improve their team while the Red Sox essentially lost players.

The Red Sox may be going into the season as the defending World Series champs, but even when they were leagues ahead of the Yankees, they still struggled to defeat their rivals.

In 2018, the Red Sox dominated every other AL East opponent but the Yankees, who they squeaked past with a 10-9 record.

Who cares what the Sox did last year? They didn’t make plans to improve their team this offseason while the Yankees did. So while the Vegas odds don’t necessarily mean anything, it’s a shred of hope to cling onto for the Yankees and their fans.

Perhaps more importantly, the SuperBook also has the odds to win the World Series. Thankfully, the Yankees are also right at the top of that, knotted at 6-1 odds with their American League counterparts in the Houston Astros.

The Sox find themselves knotted with the Machado-less Los Angeles Dodgers at 7-1 odds.

Of course there are other odds, but these are probably the most important for fans of the team. This is a semblance of hope for the Bombers as the season looms ever closer.

They couldn’t compete with the Red Sox last season but this year, things will be different. At least, according to Vegas.
