The New York Post is reporting that the New York Mets already have replacements lined up for current manager Terry Collins.

The New York Mets are expecting manager Terry Collins to retire after this season, and they may already have a few ideas as to who they want to replace him. According to Mike Puma of The New York Post, the Mets already have several candidates in mind to take Collins’ place at the helm in 2018.

Robin Ventura is the biggest name on Puma’s list, and the Wilpons are high on him. Ventura spent 1999-2001 with the Mets, where he hit .260 with 77 home runs. His first year with the team was his best, as he hit .301 with 24 home runs, won a gold glove, and finished sixth in MVP voting.

Ventura spent 2002 and part of 2003 with the Yankees, hitting 36 home runs and making the All-Star team in 2002. He managed the Chicago White Sox from 2012-2016, going 375-435 over five years, never making the playoffs.

The team is considering current hitting coach Kevin Long as a possible in-house replacement to Collins. Long, who’s crown accomplishments with the Mets have been getting Daniel Murphy to unlock his power and helping Michael Conforto after he struggled last season, is a former hitting coach with the Yankees who the club likes.

Astros bench coach Alex Cora, who spent 2009 and part of 2010 with the Mets as an infielder, is another option. Cora hit .234 with the Mets and is considered to be well versed in analytics, of which Sandy Alderson is a big believer.

Bob Geren is currently the Dodgers bench coach, a role he previously held with the Mets. He managed the Oakland A’s from 2007-2011, finishing 334-376, never making the playoffs. He was fired during the 2011 season.

Geren played for the Yankees for five years from 1988-1993 (he did not appear in the majors in 1992). The Yankees were the only team he played with, hitting .233 during his career.

Chip Hale used to be the Mets third base coach and is also being considered. He managed the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2015-2016, going 148-176. He spent seven years playing in the MLB before becoming a coach.
