New Jersey Devils young gun Nico Hischier collects his first NHL preseason game on Monday night in a team win against the Capitals.

The New Jersey Devils took on the Washington Capitals at The Rock tonight and the home fans had reason for optimism.

The Devils first overall pick scored his first NHL preseason goal en route to the 4-1 win.

Nico Hischier made a nice steal at the blue line and beat Capitals goalie Vitek Vanecek for his “first career goal.” Let’s hope many more important goals follow this one coming via exhibition play.

The Devils really need Nico to come into his own in the NHL this year if they are going to contend, especially because Travis Zajac is out for at least another few months.

Hischier netted the last goal in a 4-1 Devils victory. They return to the ice Wednesday night at the Garden as they take on the New York Rangers. Be on the lookout for the game recap tomorrow.
