In today’s Blueshirt Beat we take a look at Brady Skjei’s summer and Brandon Smith’s wedding. Training camp is about three weeks away, the boys are getting ready to kick things off!
While most of the New York Rangers are conducting informal workouts at the team’s training facility, defenseman Brady Skjei spoke with Amanda Borges of NHL.com to talk about what he did this summer.
“I feel great,” Skjei said. “Ryan [McDonagh] and I worked out hard in Minnesota.” While that might be true, let’s not forget that the two of them had some fun as well, taking part in the #DriveBySlapshotChallenge.
Skjei will look to build on his strong play from the end of last season this year.

Brendan Smith Finds His Best Pairing Yet
No offense to Skjei, his likely defensive partner, but Brendan Smith landed the best partner he could hope for, tying the knot with his fiance, Samantha.

“I had all my buddies there, including Chris Kreider and Ryan McDonagh,” Smith told Matt Calamia of nyrangers.com about his big day. “It really worked out well.” Only a wedding could top the four-year, $17.4 million deal Smith inked with the Rangers back in June.
Filip Chytil Injury Update
Larry Brooks of the New York Post tweeted a vague update regarding Chytil.
NYR first-rounder Chytil flew to NY yesterday after suffering leg injury in Four Nations tourney. No update as yet but very unlikely for TC

With the Rangers yet to comment on the status of their first-round pick, all we can do is speculate about his chances to skate in training camp.
From the Old-Time Hockey Files
Check out this picture from the New York Rangers Fashion show in 1982. Yes, fashion shows were the thing back in the ’80’s. Pictured are defenseman Reijo Ruotsalainen and forward Mark Pavelich strutting their stuff. Old time hockey at its best—or worst.
