The biggest hits in Detroit didn’t come from any piece of lumber. Instead, a good, old-fashioned brawl took place.

It all began when Gary Sanchez hit his 27th home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning. When Sanchez stepped up again in the fifth, the first offering from Michael Fulmer landed on Sanchez’s hip. Sanchez didn’t make a big deal out of it and took his base.

Things started to get testy in the bottom of the sixth inning when Tommy Kahnle threw a fastball behind Miguel Cabrera. Both Kahnle and manager Joe Girardi were ejected. Aroldis Chapman was brought in to replace Kahnle, but before he could throw a pitch, chaos ensued.

Cabrera and Romine can be seen chirping at each other, and then suddenly, Cabrera shoved Romine and started throwing haymakers. The benches cleared and relievers from both teams rushed in from the bullpen.

Check out David Robertson‘s world-class speed. He might give Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner a run for their money as the fastest player on the team.

Cabrera, Romine and everyone else involved in the fracas can expect a call from commissioner Rob Manfred once MLB has had a chance to review the video.
