Kristaps Porzingis hasn’t faced any disciplinary action from the New York Knicks while more info pours in on the Longstaff situation.
The fallout from Kristaps Porzingis blowing off his exit meeting with Phil Jackson continues to spill out in public, but the 21-year-old Latvian hasn’t faced any disciplinary action.Marc Berman of the New York Post says that, according to the NBPA, the Knicks haven’t fined Porzingis. At the draft combine in Chicago, Phil Jackson chose to deflect when asked about a potential punishment for his young star’s act of rebellion.
“I won’t talk about it,’’ Jackson said. “That’ll come out when it does.”
Berman reported that the conspiracy theory behind Josh Longstaff’s departure from New York is false. Apparently, the Knicks had decided not to renew Longstaff’s contract before the feud with Porzingis began.
Longstaff was the last remaining holdover from the Derek Fisher era in New York. Fisher brought him in after the time they spent together in Oklahoma City.
He was well-liked but not a triangle guy, and that’s the most important thing to Phil Jackson.
Per Berman, while Longstaff had success he didn’t blend in with the other coaches.
Two sources said the 33-year-old Longstaff, for all his acclaim as a good workout guy with young players, had difficulty blending in with Knicks coaches he had not worked with in Oklahoma City during his three seasons at the Garden.
