Brandon Nimmo bails out his teammates and his manager as the New York Mets walk-off against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Brandon Nimmo comes up huge for the New York Mets with a pinch-hit walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning. After a stunningly anemic lineup couldn’t manage to push across a run through the first 9.2 innings, Nimmo saved the day.

Jacob deGrom was brilliant—again—but left the game without a single run of support. deGrom went eight scoreless innings while striking out seven. Thank goodness for Nimmo. He helped the Mets avoid another tough loss at the hands of a division rival.

This game was shaping up to be another heartbreaker for the Mets. Manager Mickey Callaway can breathe a sigh of relief, but he made some questionable decisions on Wednesday night.

There were two outs in the bottom of the eighth with Amed Rosario on first. The best hitter on the Mets—Asdrubal Cabrera—was at bat. On the first pitch, Rosario took off for second and swiped the bag.

Phillies skipper Gabe Kapler promptly walked Cabrera and brought in a lefty to face Michael Conforto. The Mets lefty grounded out weakly and ended the inning. The question is: Why did Callaway steal and take the bat out of Cabrera’s hands? Maybe it’s nitpicking, but Cabrera has 16 home runs and 51 RBI. Let him hit and maybe he can drive a ball into a gap or stay with me here—over the fence.

To be fair, nobody hit for the Mets tonight so a loss would not have been on Callaway, but this type of curious decision-making seems to be commonplace with Callaway.

Regardless, the happiest man in baseball saved the day for his skipper. Nimmo’s blast was his first career walk-off and hopefully not his last.
