His final line consisted of no runs, five hits and seven strikeouts over six innings pitched before receiving the hook by manager Terry Collins. He was lifted not only due to an increasing pitch count but thanks to a blister.

Offensively, the man of the day was Cabbie, otherwise known as Asdrubal Cabrera, who finished 3-for-5 with a run scored and a run. He was responsible for the first Mets run of the season, coming in a 6-run 7th-inning that saw Wilmer Flores initially called out at the plate.

It was Duda’s only hit of the day. In fact, other stars in the lineup were hard to come by. Curtis Granderson collected a hit and a sac-fly, Rene Rivera added a single and Jay Bruce walked three times. In total, New York mustered just seven hits, equalling the competition (thanks to a big hitting 9th-inning).
After Thor, the Mets bullpen worked nicely. Hansel Robles, Fernando Salas and Robert Gsellman all pitched scoreless innings. Gsellman, used thanks to the fact his No. 5 slot won’t be needed during the opening week, struggled in the final frame while allowing two hits, but found a way out of the jam via a game-ending, broken double-play that saw Duda catch Matt Kemp snoozing at second base.
It was another solid opening day win for the Amazins. Next up will be these very same Braves at Citi Field for a Wednesday night tilt.
