Prior to Monday night’s game, both the New York Mets and Miami Marlins display heavy hearts for No. 16 Jose Fernandez.
As you must have found out at some point over the past two days, Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed early Sunday morning in a boating accident.
This whirlwind of a tragedy has left many throughout the sports world without words.
The Marlins canceled their game yesterday versus the Atlanta Braves out of respect for their star player.

On Monday, the Marlins will play their first game without Fernandez, with every player wearing his No. 16.
This will be the last time you see any Marlin wearing the number, as somber owner Jeffrey Loria shared plans to retire it.

Yesterday, Mets owner Jeff Wilpon and slugger Yoenis Cespedes got together to get a “Fernandez” Met jersey placed in the dugout. The Mets brought the jersey with them to remain in the dugout when they play in Miami tonight.
Before yesterday’s game, manager Terry Collins would only take questions in remembrance of Fernandez.
