New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway wants to return next year, believing he’s the right guy for his position.
On Wednesday, the New York Mets were sadly eliminated from postseason contention. Despite defeating the Miami Marlins 10-3, the Milwaukee Brewers topped the Cincinnati Reds 9-2. This marks the third consecutive year the Mets have missed the playoffs and the second in the Mickey Callaway era.
Because of these numerous unsuccessful campaigns, there’s speculation that the Mets may part ways with Callaway as manager. However, through all the noise, Callaway believes he’s the right man for the job.

“Obviously I have the utmost confidence in myself. I’m never going to give up, never going to quit,” Callaway told reports after the victory on Wednesday. “I think I’m the right guy to lead that team in there and I will do that to the best of my ability and as long as I can.”
I’m sure many want Callaway out. However, considering where this ballclub was just a few months ago, it’s amazing how they held onto their playoff chances until the last week of the regular season.
Whether to part ways with Callaway or not is a conversation for this organization to have at some point. But, for right now, the Mets will try to go out, win their last four games, and finish the year with an 87-75 record. That and numerous potential awards will give this ballclub great motivation heading into 2020.
Right-hander Jacob deGrom is in the running for the National League Cy Young Award and first baseman Pete Alonso has a chance to win the NL Rookie of the Year Award.
