New York Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton announced on Monday evening that the team has recalled forward Tim Gettinger from the AHL Hartford Wolf Pack.

The 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward has played in 20 games this season for the Hartford Wolf Pack, registering seven goals with 11 points. Gettinger is currently tied for first in goals scored by a rookie in the AHL.

He also has two power-play goals and is tied for second on the team with shots (42).

Gettinger scored his first AHL goal in his league debut against Providence on Oct. 5. The 20-year-old went on to record a point in each of his first four games for the Wolf Pack.

Prior to beginning his professional hockey career, Gettinger played four seasons with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League. In 242 OHL games, Gettinger registered 91 goals with 96 assists for 187 points.

Gettinger, a native of Cleveland OH, was selected by the New York Rangers in the fifth round (141st overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

The Rangers have not announced whether Gettinger will play on Saturday against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals at the Garden.

The recall is of no surprise, as the Rangers have been battling some injuries throughout the past 12 games. During that stretch, they have gone 9-2-1.

Pavel Buchnevich broke his finger two weeks ago, Mats Zuccarello missed four games due to a groin strain, though he did return to the lineup when the team visited Philadelphia on Friday afternoon.

During a fight with Ross Johnston of the New York Islanders in Wednesday night’s 5-0 win, forward Cody McLeod broke his hand and will be sidelined 4-6 weeks.

The black cloud over the Rangers recently does at least allow an opportunity for a player, in this case, Gettinger, to show the club his skills at the NHL level.
