New York Knicks News Mix, 9/3/17: Marbury on Carmelo Anthony’s Burden

Ex-New York Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury doesn’t feel any sympathy for Carmelo Anthony. That’s the life of a star in New York.
[dropcap]S[/dropcap]tephon Marbury is used to criticism. He was the target of much media scrutiny while point guard of the New York Knicks from ’04-’08. The teams were bad, and Marbury butted heads with teammates and coaches alike. He can relate to what Carmelo Anthony goes through on a consistent basis. That doesn’t mean he feels empathy for the ten-time All-Star. Marbury tells Barbara Barker of Newsday that taking the blame is what comes with being a star in the Big Apple.
“This is New York. This is what happens,” he said. “It’s a cycle. It’s not anything new that’s going on. Somebody has to take the blame. It’s part of being in New York. You gotta come, you gotta ball and you gotta win. If you can’t win, you gotta deal with it. Don’t come to New York if you can’t.”
It’s surprising that Marbury isn’t sympathetic to Anthony’s plight. New York was essentially Marbury’s last stop in the NBA – he played 23 games in Boston – and it went about as poorly as it possibly could have.
What was supposed to be a return home for the Brooklyn-born point guard ended in disaster. At least Anthony went to the playoffs a few times.
