New York Yankees’ young shortstop Gleyber Torres fired off an absolute bullet to record an improbable double play. 

Known primarily for his power at the plate, New York Yankees top prospect Gleyber Torres showed us that it works the other way, too.

In the top of the fourth inning during Tuesday’s contest with the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field, Rays’ catcher Jesus Sucre hit a very soft ground ball to Yankees’ second baseman Ronald Torreyes with Curt Casali on first.

Torreyes fielding the ball cleanly then flipped it to Torres at short but it seemed as though there was no shot to nab Sucre at first. [sc name=”Yankees Fanatics Right” ]

Then, the 20-year-old fired an authoritative bullet — that looked like a blur — over to first baseman Chris Carter to complete the 4-6-3 double play.

Torres, who will start the season in Double-A Trenton, is entered Tuesday’s action with a .400/.412/.667 slash line and 10 total bases in nine spring training games.

He’s been one of the best and brightest young talents this spring, and his flashes of stardom at the plate and on the field are currently confirming why the Yankees are so high on him.
