Chad Wheeler, former Giant and current Seahawk, has been accused of strangling his girlfriend until she lost consciousness.

NFL offensive lineman Chad Wheeler was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence. He’s been accused of assaulting his girlfriend and was held at King County Jail in Washington on Monday night pending a $400,000 bail.

Wheeler, 27, formerly spent time with the Giants from 2017-19 and is now a member of the Seahawks.

The altercation allegedly occurred this past weekend. Apparently, Wheeler had requested that his girlfriend bow to him, per the police report and as written by Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. When Wheeler’s girlfriend did not carry out his request, he threw her onto a bed and strangled her until the victim lost consciousness.

Wheeler was then reportedly surprised she hadn’t died, saying “Wow you’re alive?” when she eventually regained consciousness.

It was at that time when the victim escaped to a bathroom and called the police to say she was being “killed.”

She reportedly claimed to police that she had suffered a dislocated arm during the altercation. Wheeler also had not recently taken the medication he uses to treat bipolar disorder, per the report.

Ben Arthur of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer then reported Tuesday that Wheeler was out of jail on bond after the arrest.

According to Condotta, the Seahawks released a statement that they knew of the altercation and were “still gathering information.”

Wheeler took part in five games for the Seahawks this past season, including one against the Giants in a Week 13 loss.

UPDATE (Wednesday, Jan. 27): As of Wednesday, the Seahawks have released a statement per their official public relations Twitter account saying that Wheeler is “no longer with the team.”
