Facing deficits of 4-0 and 5-3 in the third period, the New York Rangers stunned the Montreal Canadiens on the road, 6-5.

For much of Saturday night, that huge, dark cloud hovering over Madison Square Garden felt much more impactful. The New York Knicks were getting their doors blown off by the San Antonio Spurs at home and the New York Rangers were down 4-0 to the Montreal Canadiens north of the border.

The two Manhattan locals had reached a new low.

Amazingly, one of those teams executed a miraculous comeback. It was New York’s hockey squad.

Down 4-0 early in the second and 5-3 in the third period, three-straight goals lifted David Quinn’s club to a stunning 6-5 victory over the Habs.

A Jacob Trouba tally at the 12:10 mark of the final period turned out as the eventual game-winner.

It came just 2:30 after Brendan Lemieux tied the contest with a shorthanded goal. A give-and-go with Brett Howden kept the third-period momentum going.

Of course, a six-goal came will include the team’s best player, the Bread Man. Artemi Panarin finished with a goal and an assist on the night. His lone tally was the one that got the third-period comeback party started.

Tonight’s starting goaltender, Alexandar Georgiev, played all 60 minutes despite a disastrous first period. The Habs scored three in the first including a Max Domi edition coming just 2:03 into the contest. It was an ominous sign considering the Senators also truck quickly the night prior.

Georgiev earned the win, stopping 38 of 43 Canadiens shots. Domi finished with two goals, sniping third-star honors. Panarin finished as the No. 2 star. And Mr. Lemieux, who tallied the short-hander, to go along with a second-period tally, finished with No. 1 star honors and received the Broadway Hat.

The Rangers will take Sunday off before getting back at it against the Minnesota Wild at Madison Square Garden Monday night.
