The injury to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Thursday night sparks trade buzz with New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

On this week’s Thursday Night Football matchup, the Kansas City Chiefs were up on the division rival-Denver Broncos in the first half. That’s when their star quarterback went down. Twenty-eighteen NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes dislocated his knee cap on a quarterback-sneak play in the second quarter of the victory.

Mahomes is expected to miss three weeks, but what if his injury ends up needing an even longer recovery period? Will the Chiefs have to compete with longtime veteran Matt Moore? Maybe not, as they could initiate a trade for another quarterback … possibly the one who’s in his 16th year with the New York Giants.

“They’d have to consider it,” an NFL source close to SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano said regarding a trade involving Eli Manning. “Maybe it’s unlikely, but what are their options? Even on the downside of his career, Eli has to be near the top of that list.”

The initial issue with this possibility is that Manning has a no-trade clause tied into his contract agreement. However, he very much could waive that. But even if he did decide to put the clause to the side, would the Giants organization even go through with it?

“They desperately want to do right by him,” said someone familiar with Manning’s plans, per Vacchiano. “They could have dumped him in the offseason or at any point since. But they want to show him respect and they hope he retires a Giant.

“If he asks to be traded, though, it’s really hard to imagine they’d say no.”

Manning hasn’t seen the field since the Giants decided to make the switch at quarterback to rookie Daniel Jones prior to Week 3.
