New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur compliments Daniel Jones after his performance during Thursday’s training camp practice.

Thus far in training camp, New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones is continuing his journey of preparation. Big Blue most likely won’t call upon Jones to start right now. However, he’s doing what he can to become the future of the Giants at the quarterback position.

On Thursday, he showed how much he’s improved thus far, with a long touchdown pass to veteran running back Paul Perkins.

On Friday, before the Giants’ 2:45 p.m. ET practice at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center, head coach Pat Shurmur was asked about Jones’ throw to Perkins. Evidently, Shurmur complimented Jones on his arm, per Art Stapleton of northjersey.com

“He’s made excellent throws at every practice and that was evidence to me that he’s got the arm to play in this league,” Shurmur said. “We sort of knew it before we picked him but we’ve seen it throughout the training and that was actually a very good throw.”

Giants offensive coordinator Mike Shula also took the time to speak to the media on Friday. Ultimately, he praised Jones for his consistency.

Jones is doing what he can to learn behind longtime franchise quarterback Eli Manning, who’ll most likely retain his starting spot for Week 1 barring any sort of injury.

The Giants continue their second week of training camp on Friday in preparation of their first preseason game next Thursday, Aug. 8. They’ll face the New York Jets that evening.
