New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil and right-handed pitcher Jacob deGrom have been named All-Stars.
Despite sitting in the worst spot they’ve been in all season, there is some good news for the New York Mets.
On Sunday, it was announced that the Mets will have three players on the National League All-Star roster. Rookie first baseman Pete Alonso, infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil and right-hander Jacob deGrom have all been selected to the NL squad.

McNeil and Alonso will be reserves for the NL as far as the lineup is concerned.
Entering Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves, McNeil has a batting average of .344 with six home runs and 32 RBIs through 70 games played. It’s the first-ever All-Star appearance for the second-year player.
Alonso is hitting .278 with 28 home runs and 62 RBIs. He’s taking the MLB by storm in his rookie year, as he was selected to the Home Run Derby as well.
deGrom is coming off a Cy Young-winning season and is 4-7 with an ERA of 3.32 through 17 starts this season. It’s the third All-Star Game appearance for the 31-year-old.
Despite the three All-Stars on the roster, the Mets have struggled mightily of late. They’re a season-worst 10 games under .500, and are currently 13 games behind the NL East division-leading Atlanta Braves.
Not to mention, the Mets have lost seven straight going into Sunday’s game against the Braves at Citi Field.
After Sunday, the Mets have five games left before the All-Star Break. They’ll play a two-game stint against the New York Yankees and then a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies to finish out an eight-game homestand.
