Welcome to New York, Kaapo Kakko.

New York Rangers fans welcomed their newest hero when he landed at Newark Liberty International airport on Sunday.

It’s been a whirlwind 48 hours for the Finnish hockey player. Following his selection by the Rangers, second overall on Friday night, Kakko has been doing interviews, signing autographs and getting things in order his first-time arrival in New York City.

A group of Blueshirt fans was at the airport waiting for the Finnish star to make his appearance.

With the classic “Let’s Go Rangers” ringing loud and proud throughout the airport corridor, Kakko made his appearance.

He signed some autographs, took a few pictures and soaked in his new-found fame. Kakko seemed to appreciate the fans who showed up and will have to get used the new attention he is getting now along with the heavy media presence the city of New York brings to the rink every day.

Kakko made his way to the city where he will presumably meet up with the other players that were drafted by the Rangers this past weekend.

Kakko and his new teammates will kick off the Rangers annual prospect development camp on Monday.

Fans can be sure they will be chanting out many more “Kaapo Kakko” chants at Madison Square Garden for years to come.
