Free-agent to be and New York Knicks target Kevin Durant may have reasons to leave the Warriors, and his name may be Stephen Curry.

According to Todderick Hunt of NJ.com NBA superstar, Kevin Durant may be headed out of the Golden State due to a rift with teammate Stephen Curry and head coach Steve Kerr.

“One front office executive said that Durant has been unhappy with the prodding from Steve Kerr and the feeling that he never can be — no matter how great he performs and how many individual honors he compiles — the centerpiece of a team that holds Steph Curry in the hearts of the franchise.”

Hunt’s article also references several social media posts which feature KD responding to fans on social media, something that we’ve all seen before.

Famously, Durant is the same person who once had his own burner account when he was a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Despite the fame, money, and accolades, Durant has never been shy of defending himself, whether its warranted or not.

If we’re using logic, it’s really hard for me to believe that Durant has an issue with Curry on the basketball court. If the man loves the game as much as he says he does, playing with Curry is an absolute dream.

Yet, playing on a team in a city where the golden child is clearly Curry might be something that would irk Durant and his ego. Especially when you consider this post-championship debacle from general manager Bob Meyers.

No one really knows how and when Durant will decide his future. The smoke is certainly there to make assumptions about the possibilities of him joining the Knicks. But sharing the spotlight with Curry is enough to make Durant want to jump ship, one must wonder about what can really satisfy Durant, and if any organization has the capabilities to accomplish that.

In the end, this is just another thread in what will be a fascinating summer of 2019.
