The New York Rangers will get one more opportunity to watch Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko as both we play in the World Championships beginning next week.
The New York Rangers have the number two pick in this year’s NHL Entry Draft. American Jack Hughes and Finland’s Kaapo Kakko are expected to be selected one and two with the New Jersey Devils holding the number one overall pick.
The two potential NHL players will give the Rangers and Devils one more opportunity to see them as in action when both players will represent their countries at the upcoming World Championships which begin next week in Slovakia.
Jack will join his brother Quinn wearing the red, white and blue USA sweaters.
The Hughes brothers will join fellow New York Rangers’ Chris Kreider and Brady Skjei along with Alex DeBrincat, Thatcher Demko, Jack Eichel, Luke Glendening, Quinn Hughes, Patrick Kane, Clayton Keller, Dylan Larkin, Alec Martinez, Cayden Primeau, Cory Schneider, Ryan Suter, James van Riemsdyk, Frank Vatrano and Colin White.
Kakko, 18, played in 45 games for Liiga (the professional Finnish league) scoring 22 goals and with 16 assists. Kakko tallied more points (38) in his pre-draft season than Patrik Laine and Sebastian Aho, who are some of the other recent Finnish stars currently tearing up the NHL.
Hughes and Kakko will face one another in Slovakia in a May 13 contest which is sure to have plenty of executives, scouts and coaches from both New Jersey and New York watching with a vested interest.
