The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets are heading in the right direction and players around the NBA are taking notice.

The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets are far from becoming championship contenders, but they appear to be heading in the right direction. At least, that’s what NBA players have told Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes.

Haynes mentions a number of franchises along with New York and Brooklyn, but it’s notable that the New York teams are included on the list. Even just one year ago, including the Knicks and the Nets with this group of teams would seem ridiculous.

But despite all the losing going on with the Knicks, there is a sense that they have a plan in place for the future. That plan relies heavily on landing at least one—perhaps two—superstars in free agency. This report bodes well for the Knicks.

Furthermore, the Nets will also have space to sign a superstar in free agency. While they don’t have the prestige of Madison Square Garden or the history of the Knicks, they have a roster chock full of bright young players. A superstar coming to Brooklyn would join a readymade roster and become a contender in the Eastern Conference.

The summer of 2019 is shaping up to be one of the most important offseasons in recent memory. Each team’s perception around the league will play a huge role in how free agency shakes out.

This report is excellent news for both New York franchises, but a lot can change before July 1.
