The New York Rangers are calling up 20-year-old Ryan Lindgren who will likely make his debut at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.

The New York Rangers have called up defenseman Ryan Lindgren from the Hartford Wolfpack.

Given the severity of Fredrik Claesson’s injury, it’s safe to say that the Swedish defenseman will be out for the foreseeable future. Claesson left Saturday’s game against the Islanders after a hit from Matt Martin and was not in the lineup on Sunday in Columbus.

With Claesson’s absence, Lindgren earned his chance to make a statement in New York.

Lindgren brings his 6-foot, 198-pound frame to the NHL — perfect for winning hard-nosed puck battles along the boards and elsewhere. Though mostly a defensive-minded defenseman, Lindgren has some offensive upside, especially on the power play.

Lindgren possesses great puck moving capability and a hard shot. He is also known to battle in front of the net in order to prevent second-chance opportunities.

Lindgren was drafted 49th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2016 NHL Draft. In 67 games with the University of Minnesota, Lindgren notched 16 points, a plus-six rating, and racked up 116 minutes in penalties.

The Rangers acquired Lindgren in the King’s Ransom they received when they traded Rick Nash to Boston (which included Ryan Spooner, Matt Beleskey, Boston’s 2018 first-round pick and their 2019 7th round pick).

There is no word on whether or not Lindgren will be in the lineup tomorrow against Carolina, but with some of the Rangers’ recent injuries, the assumption is that the rookie will play.

Rangers Make First Trade of 2019

Lindgren’s call up is not the only move the Rangers made today. The Blueshirts acquired Connor Brickley from the Nashville Predators for Cole Schneider.

The 26-year-old Brickley skated in 39 games with the Milwaukee Admirals, putting up seven goals and four assists for a total of 11 points. Brickley will be reporting to Hartford.
