The New York Knicks look like a lock for the lottery, but Trey Burke has other ideas for this season. He’s thinking playoffs.

Hold on to your hats because we’re about to talk about the New York Knicks and the playoffs. While there aren’t playoff expectations in New York, Trey Burke believes his team has a chance to get there.

“Obviously everyone‘s counting us out,” Burke told Marc Berman of the New York Post. “Look on paper, people don’t think we can do it. I think we believe we have a chance — and it’s early for me to say this — but I believe we have a chance to get in the playoffs this year. That should be our goal. I think that is our goal. It starts now.”

First off, this is exactly the type of mindset that David Fizdale wants in the locker room. This year is about building a winning culture and despite the pundits and prognosticators, every player in the locker room should have the same mindset as Burke. The chances of the Knicks sneaking into the playoffs are still slim, but the mindset is a positive nonetheless.

David Fizdale’s squad is on a three-game winning streak after beating the Celtics, Pelicans, and As a result, Burke and the Knicks are riding high. Moreover, the Eastern Conference is very top heavy this season, leaving room for a few surprises to sneak into the playoffs. The Knicks sit at 7-14 on the season and are a mere three games back of the eighth-seeded Orlando Magic.

If Kristaps Porzingis was healthy, the conversation surrounding the Knicks and the playoffs would be much different. But for the time being, the Knicks will take their hot streak to Detroit on Tuesday and look to continue working towards Burke’s vision of the playoffs.
