Jesper Fast and Pavel Buchnevich were the goal scorers on Wednesday for the Blueshirts. In goal, Henrik Lundqvist had a strong game making 30 saves as he was handed his first loss of the year. In his career, Lundqvist has faced the Sabres 35 times with a record of 20-12-2, 2.36 goals against average, and a .918 save percentage. He has shut Buffalo out twice.
The Sabres are coming off a 4-0 shutout loss to the Boston Bruins Wednesday night as goalie Carter Hutton made 22 saves. The Bruins Jaroslav Halak, formerly with the New York Islanders, stopped all 32 shots the Sabres took on at him.
Both teams only had one power play in their opening games and both were not successful with the man advantage.
At practice on Thursday afternoon, the only change the Rangers made with their lineup was Cody McLeod replacing Vladislav Namestnikov on the fourth line.
Following the game on Wednesday, Rangers head coach David Quinn told reporters that he wants the team to do a better job of being in the opponents face.
