With Jacob deGrom striking out batters left and right, the New York Mets earn their second-straight victory on the strength of a Wilmer Flores walk-off sac-fly.
When in doubt, look to Wilmer. It’s been the call of the New York Mets walk-off signature over the last several seasons and on Saturday night with the Arizona Diamondbacks in town, it happened again.
With two on and no out in the bottom of the ninth with the Mets and D-Backs squared at four runs apiece, Wilmer Flores simply took care of business with a sac-fly that knocked in the winning run in the form of Brandon Nimmo.

The fate of the Mets was anything but Amain’ for much of the night. After the D-Backs scrapped together three runs in the fourth inning, a deficit of 4-2 stuck. After a failed Jose Reyes at-bat in the seventh in which the bases were loaded with just one out, a pin-drop could be heard at Citi Field.
Devin Mesoraco changed all of it in the eighth inning when he destroyed one for a two-run game-tying shot. Pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme even added on with a pinch-hit double afterward in which he showcased a little old-school Pete Rose, but the teams went on to the ninth all tied up at four.

Lefty Steven Matz received the start and pitched to his usual below average standards. He allowed four earned runs on six hits while striking out just two in four innings pitched. The Mets pen, once again, pitched brilliantly led by Seth Lugo for two, Paul Sewald and A.J. Ramos for one, and then Jeurys Familia in the final frame, allowing the closer to notch the victory.
At the plate, Jay Bruce, Asdrubal Cabrera and Brandon Nimmo collected two hits apiece. Nimmo, who was put in the leadoff spot, was the man who singled to begin the ninth, representing the eventual winning run.
Now feeling good after winning their second-straight game in over a month, the Mets will look for the three-game series sweep on Sunday afternoon.
